Music

At Marmion PS we are giving our students the opportunity to experience Music as a tool of communication, a reflection of their culture and as a method of expression that they can continue all their lives.

Children in Years 1-6 receive 55 minutes of specialist music time per week. Students are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that range from singing, playing multiple instruments, reading music, writing music, composing using a range of technologies, learning about different music styles and genres, and reflecting on their musical experiences.

Our Senior Choir is made up of students in Years 5 and 6 who rehearse from 8-8.35am each Thursday morning. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn a variety of choral techniques, sing music in many different genres and work collaboratively to ensure a high level of performance. A Junior Choir (Year 2-4) has been introduced this year, run by a dedicated Marmion PS parent, and they rehearse three times per term on a Friday morning.
Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) offer weekly lessons during school time for Violin, Viola, Cello, Clarinet and Brass. Each Tuesday morning our String Ensemble rehearses from 7.45-8.30am.

The focus for Music at Marmion is taken from the National Curriculum as developed by the Department of Education. The program aims to encourage children’s enjoying of Music via movement, singing, playing instruments, listening to a variety of music, learning to read and write musical notation and composing using available instruments and technologies.

Junior Music lessons use a combination of Orff, Dalcroze and Kodaly approaches with a focus on untuned and tuned percussion. Students develop a sound understanding of beat, rhythm and simple pitch sets as well as learning music language to identify and describe the musical elements. Middle and upper primary Music lessons include playing the ukulele, recorder, djembe drums, tuned percussion and composing using iPads.
We have a highly supportive learning environment made possible by the entire Marmion School Community and are fortunate to provide students with a vast array of opportunities to express themselves musically.

Providing a nurturing, inclusive and
safe learning environment for all.
